  • Need Help With Wedding Invitation Wording?

Your wedding invitations give wedding guests their first glimpse at your big day, so it is crucial that every element is perfect from the design layout through to your wedding invitation wording. While in previous DreamDay Invitations blog posts we’ve addressed many areas related to choosing the right wedding invitation design to complement your wedding theme, this week’s post will be covering the next step - invitation wording. Keep reading to learn more about the basic elements of wording that should be included no matter what style you opt for!

    1. Who’s Hosting?

In a traditional sense it is often the bride’s parents that are the hosts of the wedding, however including both sets of parents as hosts is a more commonly used format now, regardless of who foots the bill.

In circumstances where the bride and groom, together with both sets of parents are paying  for the wedding, the words “Together with their parents, Peter and Mary request the pleasure of your company...” can be used.

    2. Bride and Groom’s Names

Traditionally, the bride’s name always precedes the grooms and if her parents are hosting it’s always her first and middle name that’s listed, while the groom’s full name is included. Titles are an option, but by no means a necessity.

    3. Date and Time of the Wedding

Whether it’s a formal or more casual affair, it is considered important for the date to be written out in full on wedding invitations, without numerals. The time should be written out with the terms “o’çlock” or “half after” for traditional weddings, while for a more casual wedding, numerals are with a.m. or p.m. are acceptable.

Classic Wedding Invitations - DreamDay Invitations

    4. Wedding Ceremony Information

This is fairly straightforward and ideally should be just the name of the venue with the city and state written in full. However, if the wedding is taking place at a home or a venue that is not well known, you can opt to include the street address in the wedding invitations too.

    5. Reception Info

For traditional, formal weddings, reception information is normally printed on a separate card, however this is not a must and a lot of couples prefer to have it printed on the wedding invitation itself (granted that there is sufficient room).

If the reception is taking place at the same location of the wedding ceremony, a simple line like “and afterward at the reception” should be included. If the reception is being held at a different location, the venue details should be listed on a separate line.

    6. Dress Code

Wedding invitation etiquette dictates that the dress code should be mentioned on the lower right hand corner of your wedding invitation. If you opt not to include a dress-code, your wedding guests are likely to follow your wedding invitation style as a guideline. For instance a traditional wedding invitations in classic colours will indicate a formal dress code, while a more laid-back wedding invitation style gives the impression of a casual dress code.

    7. RSVP Card

In the case of traditional weddings, couples opt to include a separate RSVP card which the guests will fill up and mail back to the couple. However, a lot of contemporary weddings skip this and opt to have a wedding website instead.

  • What Should You Include in your Wedding Stationery Suite?

Your wedding stationery suite can be as simple or as extensive as you would like it to be! Your wedding theme and style does play a big part in it too as for instance, a destination wedding theme would require more wedding stationery to hold details about travel details, hotel bookings etc and should neatly organised in a folder style invitation. With this in mind, let’s take a look at different items that can be included in your wedding stationery.

Save the Date Cards in a Wedding Stationery Suite

Photo Save the Date Card - Wedding Stationery Suite

Save the Date Cards are an important part of your wedding stationery suite and should be sent out irrespective of whether you’re having a large traditional wedding or an intimate destination wedding. Your save the date cards do not have to be similar to your wedding invitation design (a huge relief for all those couples who need some extra time to decide on a wedding them) and absolutely love personalised photo design styles where photos of the couple are used in the design. Choose from studio style professional photos to your favourite casual photos of together or for an extra special touch photos of the proposal if you had someone capture that special moment for you. Wondering when save the date cards should go out? Refer back to our previous blog post Important Wedding Stationery Timeline for the answer and more important dates.

Wedding Invitations in a Wedding Stationery Suite

Wedding Invitations - Wedding Stationery Suite

Pretty much the highlight of your wedding stationery suite, wedding invitations set the tone of your wedding by offering your guests their first glimpse at what you have in store so make sure to give the design, wording and style some thought!

Make sure to include key information such as the date, time, location, dress code and any other important information you would like your guests to know. If the reception follows the ceremony immediately and you’re not having different guests to this, you can opt to include reception information on the wedding invite itself

Reception Card in a Wedding Stationery Suite

Planning to host your wedding reception at a seperate venue to where the wedding ceremony was held? Opt to include a separate reception card in your wedding stationery suite, as including a second set of details ( address, time etc) on the wedding invitation will result in the card looking overcrowded and messy. The wording used in the card should reflect the tone of the wedding reception, so avoid using formal wording if the wedding reception is a casual affair that’s less traditional. Also, take into consideration invitation etiquette for wording, for instance a reception after 1.00pm is referred to just as a ‘Reception’, while anything before that would be a ‘Breakfast Reception’.

Response Card in a Wedding Stationery Suite

Response cards are crucial for helping you get a general headcount for caterers etc. Include a postage stamp for the convenience of your guests and include checkboxes for guests to be able to select their food preference for a sit down dinner. Here’s a tip - to avoid time spent guessing when you can’t read people’s handwriting, number the back of the response cards and keep track of the numbers in a Google spreadsheet for a quick and easy way to figure out who responded.

Directions Card in a Wedding Stationery Suite

Not everyone attending your wedding will have a smart phone and there’s always a chance that there’s no signal, phone battery is dead etc that would result in them not being able to use Google Maps to find the wedding location - so what do you do? Make sure to include a directions card in your wedding stationery suite for easy to read directions that all your wedding guests are sure to find handy. Remember to use a simple, non complicated font and font size for the directions so that it can be easily read by anyone.

Accommodation Card in a Wedding Stationery Suite

Will you be having a lot of out of town guests attending your wedding or is yours a destination wedding? If you answered yes, an accommodations card is a must in your wedding stationery suite. Give your wedding guests clear information of the closest hotels to your wedding venue. Aim to include at least two or three options in different price brackets. In the chance that you’ll be covering their stay, put this down clearly on the accomodations card. The accomodations card can also be used to communicate air travel details or transportation to and from the wedding venue.

Weekend Itinerary Card in a Wedding Stationery Suite

Especially in the case of destination weddings where there will be multiple events either pre or post wedding, the weekend itinerary card is the best way to update your guests so that they know what to expect and what they should pack. Envelopes

Don't forget the stamp! Luckily, you do not have to hand write the addresses yourself—many wedding stationery companies like DreamDay Invitations offer addressing services to save you some time!

    Belly Band

Belly bands or wedding invitation wrappers hold all the beautiful pieces of your wedding invitation suite together in an organised fashion. This can be customised to reflect your wedding invitation design and wedding theme by using coordinatiing colours and don’t forget to give it a creative touch by accentuating the band with a ribbon or jewel for a touch of glamour!

  • Wedding Day - Reception Stationery Essentials

Wedding planning usually involves many components that when put together makes for a great looking day. You almost always start with the wedding date, time and venue which will be included in the wedding invitations (then you will need to think about other things such as figuring out who to invite and more).

DreamDay Invitations Australia Online Wedding Invitations Stationery

If you've decided to have a destination wedding, the wedding invites need to be sent out as soon as possible. However, proper wedding etiquette allows a period between three to six months before the wedding day, allowing wedding invitees and guests to make arrangements such as accommodation and travel. Often,  the bride and groom will contact hotels,  inns or motels close to the wedding venue and request special rates or have rooms blocked out for your wedding guests to choose from. This information can be included in the wedding invite card too.

Between figuring out your wedding invitations (and sending them out) to the day of the wedding, there are various things on the wedding planning checklist that needs to be accomplished. Things like figuring out what the bride and groom will wear are important being the stars of the show. It's also important to look into other details such as what the bridesmaids, groomsmen, and other members of the bridal retinue/party will wear. This includes their bouquets/boutonnieres, hairstyles and accessories too. That's not all. You have to also consider food and beverages, what type of setup you're going for and the dining style - buffet or sit down.  Accordingly you'll have various wedding stationery options to choose from.

DreamDay Invitations Wedding Stationery Order of Service

When it comes to wedding stationery, it acts as an informative tool to often direct your wedding guests as to where they need to go or what is available to them. You'll start with a wedding banner at the entrance to let your guests know they're at the right place, followed by arrows or flags that can be placed paving the way. There can be a place cards table for your guests to pick up theirs and place at the seat they choose. If you've decided where everyone will sit, then you can have yourself a seating chart, either alphabetical or according to the tables, and have the place cards set at each table.

Other items you may find at the table would include a souvenir menu card if you are opting for a sit down dinner, as well as a table number card and don't forget the  bomboniere tags/labels you may need when presenting your wedding guests with a small token of thanks. Speaking of thanks, you will also need to have ready thank you cards to thank your guests for attending your big day. These are just some of the wedding stationery essentials you may think to use. If you have any more ideas and suggestions, let us know! We'd love to hear from you.

This type of wedding is ideal if traditional design isn't your personal style! It's the perfect look for a quirky and unique couple that are looking to break away from the traditional wedding mould to create a wedding style that is 101% theirs. By experimenting with unique shapes and looks, you can transform it into your wedding own custom look.

Start with a wedding inspiration board putting together different ideas for you to blend together beautifully to make a cohesive yet whimsical wedding theme. You can carry the very same look and design onto other aspects of the wedding day such as the welcome sign(s) and other wedding stationery to the wedding cake and wedding bombonieres.

Once you have your wedding invitations & stationery planned out and all you need to decide is the quantity you will need  (in terms of the wedding stationery, the quantities can be decided closer to the wedding date once guests have RSVPed). You need to think about the way you will style your decorative elements for the wedding such as the altar design, the tablescapes and more.

Some opt for a garden inspired and other unique looks such as carnival to wonderland inspirations. A beautiful garden inspiration would be a hanging wisteria garden look for the wedding ceremony (whether indoors or outdoors) or if you fancy something more rustic yet full of fun and whimsy, a colourful themed overhead altar with life-size pinwheels. You can even use them instead of bridesmaid's bouquets, boutonnieres and hair accessories. Carnival themed weddings are usually the most common choices for whimsical weddings, but there are fun ways to customise these too. For example, you can trade in a typical photo booth for a kissing booth instead!

  • Glitter Wedding Invitations & Wedding Styles

"She leaves a little sparkle wherever she goes" said Audrey Hepburn; a little sparkle never hurt anyone so why not choose a wedding theme full of sparkle with glitter wedding invitations and more wonderful theme styles to go with it. Here are some ideas for the wedding invitations, colour schemes, and styles for your glitter wedding.

Adding a little glitter, sparkle and shine to your wedding via invitations and/or wedding stationery is a perfect way to preview the theme in mind with a bang! However, make sure you fine tune the theme before you commit as you don't want to "blind" or "overdose" your wedding guests with too much sparkle. Moderation is key here!

    When choosing your sparkle or glitter themed wedding invites, consider the following styles;

    1. Layered wedding invitations with glitter specialty wedding paper

    2. Layered embossed wedding invitation designs with a sequined sparkle effect

    3. Mix and match glitter or sequin-style embossed paper wedding invitations with foil or metallic wedding stationery

    4. Glitter envelope liner to match wedding invite. Add a foil envelope seal to the back of the envelope as a personalised finishing touch.

When you're planning on styling your wedding with glitter and sparkle, be wary that too much of it can overpower your guests and can take the focus off of the bride and groom, and quite possibly lean towards being gaudy as opposed to elegant/classy. Make sure to limit your use of glitter and sparkle to a few areas of your wedding such as the wedding invites, the wedding dress choices and accessories for the bride and bridesmaids, and possibly accenting the wedding cake and using a toned down design taken from the wedding invitations to be used in the wedding stationery.

When it comes to styling the beautiful bride, you can opt for a modern white wedding gown with use of embellishments to bring in the glitter & sparkle theme into play. Using an embellished bodice or even an all-over sequin wedding dress for an ultra modern twist with a 1920s style inspiration, to even adding accessories as a neckline jewelled shrug, jewelled hair accessories, crystal bridal headband or diamante bouquet ribbon wraps are great ways to incorporate the design to bring the focus to the beauty of the day (or night).

But that's not where the shine stops. You can have yourself a faux diamante inspired wedding cake or even one with edible glitter used stylishly. Don't forget to send off the newlyweds in style! Sequin confetti and sparklers are great ways to let your sparkle shine through!

With these great wedding design tips from the wedding invites to the send-off, be inspired to create a glitter and shine wedding just for the two of you!

                                            DreamDay Invitations Embellished Wedding Stationery

One of the easiest ways to present your invites with a classy twist would be to use an invitation box, either in a paper quality or in clear PVC. The former style leaves a sense of mystery whereas the clear box lets you peak at the contents inside and offers excitement. You can include fancy tissue paper to add a layer of mystery, building up anticipation. Some even opt to add a ribbon band or even a customised printed belly band too. The decision is yours - a sample arrangement of the various styles you're thinking of having laid out side by side in its entirety will help you make a more informed decision.

Ribbons, buckles, specialty paper, cluster brooches and other embellishments are other great ways to spruce up a wedding invite. The choice of ribbon (type, colour, texture and size) and the placement matters. Put together a few samples in different styles and collaborations with buckles or brooches to assess which works better.

Bring specialty paper into the loop by playing with layers. Since there are many paper qualities available for the cards it's always a good idea to have samples sent to you to find the best type of specialty paper that will go with the colour, texture and look of the paper used in the invite. • Weddings & Invitations Inspired by Shades of Blue

Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something new. Ever since the olden days when this tradition was integrated into our culture, there's been a fascination, where we've come to find new and creative ways to add a shade of blue into the day that two hearts unite in holy matrimony.
