Wedding Planning Tasks

Planning a wedding can take month, sometimes even a year (or more).  From figuring out the date of the wedding, wedding venue, sending out wedding invitations, and much more; there's lots to be done. We've put together a list of Wedding Planning Tasks to give you an idea on what you need to take care of with a realistic timeline.

Soon After Getting Engaged

Engagement Invitations
  • Let your family & friends know the good news via an engagement invitation or announcement that can double up as a keepsake (photo engagement cards are ideal)
  • Set a wedding date

 

9 to 12 Months before the Wedding Day

  • List out what you both want for the wedding and compare notes
  • Set a budget against what you can both agree on across the various aspects of the wedding costs
  • Consider venues within the budget and reserve the wedding venue (your ceremony venue, if separate, will also need to be reserved).
  • Start on a guest list and to best estimate your costs on a rough number
  • Create a wedding folder to file away inspiration, quotes and receipts from vendors
  • Select your wedding party (create special "Will you be my Bridesmaid/ Groomsman" cards)
  • Hire a wedding planner or an on-the-day wedding coordinator
  • Look for vendors (for florists, photographers and entertainment) in and around your wedding venue
  • Find a Wedding Officiant

 

6 to 9 Months before the Wedding

  • Look for Caterers, sample their menus and finalise if your wedding venue doesn't provide Food & Beverage
  • Select the style for your Bridal Party (including bridesmaid's attire, as well as the styles for the Groom and Groomsmen)
  • Find the perfect Wedding Dress
  • Register for your Wedding Gift Registry
  • Figure out transport and accommodation (especially if it's a destination wedding)
  • Create a website (as a place where your wedding invitees can RSVP or refer to for information)
  • Plan the honeymoon

 

4 to 6 Months before the Big Day

Save The Date
  • Finalise your guests list
  • Send out save the dates
  • Figure out the rentals needed for the ceremony/reception (outdoor chairs, lighting, etc)
  • Shop for your wedding invitations (choose a shop that allows you to customise affordable wedding invite cards conveniently online)
  • Meet with your officiant
  • Choose readings for the ceremony and ask readers to take on that role
  • Make sure accommodation has been blocked for out of town wedding guests
  • Finalise rehearsal dinner details

 

2 to 6 Week before your Dream Day Wedding

  • Finalise guest list
  • Select your on-the-day wedding stationery (inclusive of ceremony and reception items - ideally to match your customised wedding invitations)
  • Finalise & print seating charts and order of service cards / programs
  • Write vows
  • Final dress fittings
  • Finalise minute details, confirm vendors and program with the wedding day coordinator

 

1 week Before Your Wedding

  • Keep in mind that last minute tasks will pop up and to be prepared, don't procrastinate to the end assuming you have time to take care of it as the last minute wedding rush will be overwhelming
  • Confirm times and schedules with vendors
  • Delegate wedding tasks for the wedding day to bridal party and others who has volunteered
